Suzie Moncrieff
Suzie Moncrieff was born with desire,
near Nelson, New Zealand, she was one
of four children of Dorothy and Jack Dick,
a sawmill owner.Both of her parents were
talented people they both had their own
careers they followed, Dorothy painted,
sang, acted, and performed in comedy
shows, while Jack played the piano and had
his own dance band. As a child she created
her own plays including painting the sets
and drawing the characters as well.
Moncrieff studied in at Waimea college,
Richmond, and particularly enjoyed art
and sculpting.
What She wanted and the impact?
She was always fond with becoming an
artist but her application was declined from
an art school so she decided to apply and
study at Christchurch teachers college.
She was never really fond nor
interested in it so she moved
back to Nelson after 14 months.
She only needed to believe in herself to
get where she is today and that is what
most people believe in her about.
She gave hope for those who don't believe
they can make it if they believe.
What she did for a living?
She worked as psychiatric hospital,
Until she returned to sculpting in her 30's.
She went through two marriages and two
divorces.Her friends encouraged her to
change her surname to anything she wanted
so she chose Moncrieff a name from her
mother’s Shetland Island ancestry. Moncrieff’s
first exhibition was held in Wellington in the early
1980’s but because of the high fees she decided
to open her own gallery. She joined six others artists
And bought an old dilapidated cottage. She decided
That to promote their gallery is to have a annual
Competition. She organised the first WOW show in 1987.
