What is Matariki?

Matariki is known as the celebration of the Maori New Year.

Maori new year is marked by the rise of Matariki, which is a group of stars known as the Pleiades star cluster or the
seven sisters. Also the sighting of the new moon.

Matariki is known to appear in the sky at night during mid-winter marking the beginning of a new year.

People use this time to remember the dead and the start of a new beginning.

Matariki used to determine the coming season’s crop.

Some people think that Matariki is the “Eyes if God”.

Matariki appears in the eastern sky sometime around the shortest day of the year.

Matariki usually was celebrated by the gathering of the Whanau and reflecting on the past. It’s a time for the families
to remember their whakapapa {genealogy}, which is still happening today, but some people now celebrate around
music, song, dance, food, and family. The celebration lasts up to 3 days.

The stars are named- Ururangi -Tupua-rangi -Waita -Matariki -Tupua-nuku -wai-puna-a-rangi.

HUMAN RIGHTS

In social studies for the past 10 weeks. We worked on the topic Human rights. Which included
-Child Labour,
-Child soldiers
-Human trafficking
and Slavery

In all these concepts human rights play a huge role in them.
-For child labour their rights that were taken away when they were forced to work in mining, making bricks and etc.
These were the rights that were taken away from them.
-Freedom
-the right to education
-the right to talk or have a opinion
-the right to live where they want
-the right to go where they want
-the right to not be forced to do anything.
and many more.

Out of all these rights every single one is important for each person or child to be able to do.
My own opinion is that, when I first learned about these horrendous jobs and choices the people are making made me want to learn more.
The jobs given or forced to a child made me want to get involved for this to never happen in our country; Maybe it is maybe it's not. But the fact that over a million children have to go through this much hardships at a young age. Made me as a person and child to take over for them and carry these hardships together.
We are so busy looking up the new Nike that we don't even know who made it. We just buy keep buying these things that are expensive without even knowing who even made it. Children
In this lifetime take things granted that aren't affordable to many, But, "who made it". They are children that are sold into labour and work day and night for the new "Nike" you wear or the new dress you just bought. I'm grateful to be brought up in a family who support and love each other, which is my hope for those children in child labour to have this in the near future.

For human trafficking in my opinion this shouldn't even be known or even be done to others.
This just takes away every right we have as people.
human trafficking- for people to just sell or trade people is just disgusting that any human being can do that.
I learned that for some countries these are just one of the governments task that they will either ignore or just left alone.
People in human trafficking even though they escape nothing will change they will always be brought back to where they were sold.
I know that many live a luxury life while others are just being traded around the world or sold. This topic gave me a reason to just be grateful that we can live a good life without taking anything for granted.

Child Labour- Is work for children that either harms them or exploits them in some way. e.g Physically, Mentally, Morally or blocking access to education.

Guitar Evaluation {music}

What did you find challenging about Guitar skills?

I personally find it hard to move my fingers to the next chord since I have to stay in tune with the song I chose but I did it quite well.

How did you feel about your skills test?

I feel like I could have done better if I didn't use the strumming pattern since I was nervous my hand just ended up strumming the chords instead of playing it like I practised.

Which instrument would you like to focus on next term? and Why?

I would focus more on piano since I find that easier for me to learn and play.

I also like the sound of a song from the piano when completely learned.

I would also try singing while playing.

Paragraph writing {Iqbal}

{S}Iqbal is a young boy in Pakistan, who was invaded of his right to freedom and to speak when he was
sold in child labour. he was punished for speaking his opinion.

{E}Everyone should have the right to live where they want and go where they want.

When Iqbal did something wrong, Hussain his owner would look him in the chamber chained to a wall.
Which is where he stays until he is allowed to be freed.

{E}Because of these punishments he nearly gave up on trying to escape. Every child should have a
chance to live their childhood to the fullest, but Iqbal lost that chance at a very young age. Including other
children in child Labour.

{L}Iqbal also lost his rights to Education.

Observing the energy contained within food {experiment}

Aim: To release the energy within a "cheezel" by burning it.

Equipment: Bunsen burner, Cheezel, scissors tongs, heatproof mat.

Method:
1} Place your Bunsen burner on a heatproof mat and light it.

2} Gently hold the Cheezel in the scissors tongs.

3} Ignite the Cheezel by placing one side of it in the Bunsen flame.

4} When the Cheezel is a light, ensure you hold it over you heatproof mat.


Observation: Once we put the cheezel on the fire it burns and produces a substance which is when carbon is produced.
Also turns black when burned.

a} warmth
b}growth
c}movement

2} Compare and contrasts the process of combustion and respiration.
Similarities: both need oxygen and carbon also produce heat
Differences: respiration releases energy slowly. combustion requires more energy to start.

Observing the Effects of Anaerobic Respiration {experiment}

Aim- To demonstrate the effects of anaerobic respiration{muscle fatigue}

Equipment- A spring-loaded clothes peg.

Method:

1: Hold the clothes peg as shown in the diagram.

2: Relax your thumb so that the peg closes all the way

3: Squeeze your thumb and forefinger so the peg is fully open.

4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 as quickly as you can until you experience muscle fatigue.

1} Explain what type of respiration your cells are using:
    {a} At the beginning of the exercise:
Aerobic
    {b} At the end of exercise:
Anaerobic

2} Write an equation to summaries anaerobic respiration.
Glucose--- lactic acid+small amount of ATP (energy)

3} Explain why anaerobic respiration is considered "wasteful" respiration.

Because the total energy yield from each other glucose molecule is only a fraction of what is released when compared to aerobic respiration.

Observation:

Since we used a elastic rubber band we experienced muscle fatigue a lot faster in my opinion than a peg.
